I am constantly being asked by friends and clients; what eye shadow will suit my eye colour. Here I will explain a general rule of thumb as to what colours will suit your needs. Remember that these are just guidelines and as long as they are applied correctly, any colour will suit your complexion and eye colour.
For blue eyes:
Natural day looks try; taupe, blue (darker than your eyes, this will make your natural colour 'pop'), blacks and browns - see 'how to create smokey eyes', purple, peach, cream, pinks, greys and gold. My favourites include a gold base with brown on the outer half or peach and purple.
For evening make-up try; turquiose, peach, pink and black. If you are looking for a combination try peach as your base colour, grey on the outer half, black on the outer corner with either a purple,green or blue liner on the upper lashes and black liner on the lower. Or for a more sophisticated look use pink mixed with gold as the base for your eye socket, grey on the outer half and black for the outer corner and underneath the lash line. Dont forget to line the entire eye with both kohl and liquid black eyeliner.
For green or hazel eyes;
Natural day looks try golds and browns, browns with a hint of red, peach and dark green, greys and purples. My favourite is gold moving into a copper, a hint of reddish brown and then brown on the outer corner. Leave eyeliner off of the waterline for this look.
Evening make up:
Dark green, grey, black, brown, silver, gold, yellow and peach.
Use a yellow as the base of your eye socket, next add a gold shade to the inner corners of your eyes. For the middle section of your eyes add a light green, making sure the yellow is still on show slightly, then finish off with a dark green slowly fading into brown. For a dramatic look finish this look with harsh eyeshadow flicks at the outer corners.
Brown eyes:
Natural day look try soft browns or a peach and pink, champagne, gold, silver, greys and charcoal.
Evening make up go crazy with some deep blues, tangerines, black and browns. Why not go for a full smokey eye with silver on the inside, grey in the middle and black on the outside and under the lashes. Line with black eyeliner, For a funky look add a striking blue, purple or green to the top lashes.
For colours that suit all eyes try smokey browns or greys and remember when picking colours in a department store, try a little of each on your hands to see if they compliment eachother. For small eyes, make sure the lightest colour is applied closest to the nose. For day looks apply the colours softer with less liner, for evenings, experiment! Go dark and heavy or bright and funky. There are no rules.
